Artist Statement
My practice begins with a story and ends with an impression. I seek to understand the lasting impacts of the narratives we experience and tell ourselves. The emotional fallout from these adventures shape our beliefs and values, get enshrined in personal myth, and evolve to eventually define lives. I use oil paint to communicate, share, and understand these fantastical catalysts.
Delusions are distilled down to key representational elements and then designed with care. I craft for emotional impact and longevity, rehearse and plan my execution, and leave enough room for improvisation. I explore how to inspire and draw people together with visual storytelling. Current work studies our shared narratives, drawing upon my previous professional life as an immuno-oncology scientist.
Biography
While Jonathan Soriano (b. 1988) developed an affinity for art in high school, his parents’ medical influences led him to his first wonderful life adventures in biotechnology and drug discovery. After 13 years professionally focused on building immuno-oncology therapeutics through protein engineering and gene editing, in 2024 at 36 years old the stars aligned for his chance to pursue his formative passion for painting. Having learned that moderation is not his strong suit, Jonathan seized his opportunity to trade the pipette for the paintbrush.
Jonathan lives with his husband in Boston, MA, using this next chapter of his life to develop traditionally refined artistic skills to support impactful contemporary visual stories. His emerging work has been collected by national private institutions and residencies. As of late 2026, he will be operating full time out of his Boston South End studio as part of the SoWa community.
